Many variables exist in utility locating that can impede results. Accuracy comes with knowing what these variables can and sometimes do to results of the electro-magnetic signal detection process. These variables can be caused by, but not limited to, age and condition of utility, soil type, soil moisture content, type or lack there-of utility grounding, etc… These conditions may cause erroneous readings or omissions beyond control of PTL. Simply stated, some utilities cannot be located using the electro-magnetic signal detection method. If Precise Target Locating cannot find your utility, this utility cannot be found!

Precise Target Locating will work diligently with our clients to locate and mark all known utilities on site. The more information a client can provide, the more complete, accurate and efficient the job will be. For best results, PTL will ask the client to provide the following information :

  • Available schematics, prints, plans or as-built drawings. PDF is preferred

  • On-site contact name, phone #, e-mail address. This contact must be available to speak to PTL techs during project.

  • Access to all buildings, equipment rooms, mechanical rooms, lighting access areas, etc…, within and around area to be located/investigated.

Precise Target Locating will not be held liable for excavation related damage to any utility not previously notated via schematics, prints, plans, as-built drawings or other documents, as well as initial discussions with on-site contact.

Precise Target Locating will not be held liable for excavation related damage to any utility that has no visible surface structure within the requested locate/investigation area.

Precise Target Locating is a “private” utility locating company. This means PTL locates lines and utilities not owned or maintained by local electric, telecommunications, gas, water, or sewer companies and/or municipalities. PTL assumes no liability for excavation related damage maintained by public utility operators. These utilities are protected by Missouri 1 call service.

Missouri law 319.026 states prior to excavation, an excavator shall serve notice of intent to excavate to the notification center by toll free telephone # operated on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis or by facsimile, or by completing notice via internet at least “2” working days, but not more than “10” working days, before expected date of commencing the excavation activity.

Precise Target Locating may have to “mark” some public utilities during the course of investigation, while marking the private lines and utilities. Marks on public utilities made by PTL technicians are not to be relied upon in lieu of contacting Missouri 1 Call or 811.

Employing Precise Target Locating does not fulfill the legal obligation of the Missouri 1 Call process. PTL assumes no liability for failure to contact Missouri 1 Call. Excavators should always call Missouri 1 Call before excavation.
